High containment virology and immune engineering for pandemic preparedness

The Woolsey Lab is based at the Galveston National Laboratory at the University of Texas Medical Branch. We study how highly pathogenic viruses interact with the host immune system and use these insights to guide vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics that are ready for the next outbreak.

Our team combines BSL-4 virology, primary human and animal models, organ-on-chip platforms, and high-dimensional immune profiling to understand and prevent severe disease caused by emerging and re-emerging viruses.
